Set in Prague in 1953, this suspenseful crime drama follows honest police captain Hakl (Trojan) and his investigation of a seemingly mundane robbery at a goldsmith’s shop. In a fraught political climate, this incident is seized on by the Communist authorities, who require a smokescreen for their own, far grander, deception. 

On the orders of State Security, Hakl’s investigation is taken over by Major Zenke (Sebastian Koch, The Lives of Others), an East German specialist, who has been told to “prove” that the gold was stolen by the Jewish community to finance Zionist terrorism. But the experienced Hakl’s instincts puts him on the path of an altogether different story. Can one just man stand up to the forces of an increasingly oppressive state? The shadow of the past looms over all involved, and this can make a culprit of a victim and a hero of a culprit. Somber and atmospheric, this is a moving and compelling study of the Stalinist era.

电影《阴影下》（捷克语《Ve Stinu》，英文《In the shadow of the horse》） 今年9月13日在捷克首映后深受好评，首映一周后，更被捷克影视学院（CFTA）选中，代表捷克角逐奥斯卡最佳外语片奖。该片反映的是上个世纪50年代的捷克斯洛伐克共产党统治下的罪恶。捷克国家博物馆馆长米哈尔·鲁凯甚（Michal Lukes）：“这是关于50年代（捷克斯洛伐克）（共产党统治时期）的重要回忆。完全真实展现当时发生的恐怖。”

据捷克媒体“电影盒子”报导，《阴影》从48部竞争影片中脱颖而出，被捷克影视学院（CFTA）选中参加2013年的奥斯卡最佳外语片奖的角逐。捷克影视学院院长彼德·瓦赫莱勒对《阴影》前景看好：“1996年我们获得奥斯卡奖的影片《给我一个爸》（za Kolju ）就是回顾不久前的历史的。希望这次《阴影》也能够成功。”

捷克此次选送奥斯卡最佳外语片的影片《铁幕阴影下》，原名就是阴影下，影片的风格与此片名颇为搭调。整部影片气氛阴沉，暗淡光线下的的古老建筑，在讲究的镜头里显得特别有质感。中文名加上了铁铁幕两字，因为此剧与我所看过的大多数捷克电影一样，揭露的是铁幕之后的罪恶。只不过此片将谴责包装在一个罪案故事之中。

故事发生在1953年，铁幕刚刚在东欧落下不久，新旧体制正在转换过程中。就在这一年，建立起铁幕的斯大林去世，而在他去世前，他在苏联及东欧开始了两项比较大的政策，一是货币改革，二是重启对犹太人的迫害。这是《铁幕阴影下》故事发生的背景，也是观众能够把握住电影主旨的地方。

电影以一起金库盗窃案作为故事的开始，其实，这是一起并不复杂的案件，对于久经沙场的影片主角哈克上尉来说，在他的职业生涯中恐怕也遇到过不少类似案件。不过，随着调查的深入，各方人物次第登场，哈克才发现，案件相当的古怪，远非想像中的那么简单。国安局出场接手了案件，还有德国的专家也介入，且涉案者基本上都是犹太人。一切显得那么扑朔迷离。哈克还在用着传统的手法调查着此案，不过时代已经完全改变了，在那个时代里，政治主宰着一切。哈克未有意识到这一点，也才酿成了他本人的悲剧。
