绿巨人最早出现在1962年惊奇漫画出版的6册系列漫画中，出自作家斯坦·李和漫画家杰克·科比(Jack Kirby)之手。两年后，绿巨人成为《Tales to Astonish》第59集中Giant-Man的对手，并进而在下一集中发展出独立故事。到1968年，绿巨人已经占据了整本漫画，该系列漫画由此更名为《神奇绿巨人》(The Incredible Hulk)，并一直出版到474集，在1999年才画上句号。不过，绿巨人并未从此消失，而是以全新系列重出江湖(起初名为《
